What is Care.Data?
The NHS is changing and services are being restructured. These reforms will impact upon the way that clinical data are collected , shared and analysed.
Under the powers of Health and Social Care Act 2012, the Health and Social Care Information Centre can, under certain circumstances require Personal Confidential Data from GP practices without seeking patient consent. One of the first initiatives is Care.Data. This is all to improve the services offered by the NHS so we can provide the best possible care for everyone.
What Data will be extracted?
The data to be extracted from GP systems for care.data includes information such as family history, vaccinations, diagnosis, referral, biological values and all NHS prescriptions. Only the minimum amount of information required will be used.
Patients D.O.B, POSTCODE, NHS NUMBER AND GENDER will be identified – NOT THEIR NAME.
If you are happy for information to be used in this way you do not have to do anything, but if you object to this you must inform the practice.
If you wish to opt out please inform the practice ASAP.
